You’re working on a report while on your desktop. Occasionally, you get some social media notifications going off on your computer. You get sidetracked by your Facebook feed, and a half-hour later, you didn’t get much done on that report. Sound familiar? Many people struggle with working and checking social media sites at once. I’m going to talk about a neat app known as the Freedom app. I will write a Freedom app review from a user’s perspective (based on how it’s helped improve my time management skills).

Freedom App Review: What is the Freedom app?

Freedom App Review- 1

The Freedom app allows you to block websites, apps, and other distracting websites. The purpose is to help you focus on getting things done that matter the most. Whether that’s finishing a report, planning an event, or doing something more efficiently, the Freedom app can be an excellent resource. The app has been around for several years and has helped users save an average of 2.5 hours daily. In this review, I will go over the following points, including:

1.) Freedom app key features

2.) Pricing

3.) Pros and Cons

4.) Rating & overall review

Freedom App Review: Key Features

Some of the features for this app are included with a premium membership (see the pricing section below)

Block The Internet (+ All Distracting Websites)

The Freedom app allows you to block the internet during times you set up through the app. There is an option to block all websites while working on a computer. When this happens, and you try going to a website, a pop-up will come up saying “You’re Free,” or “Oops, You Should Be Working Now.” This option reminds you to stay focused on whatever you intended to work on at that moment.

There is an option on the app to block all distracting websites on your computer. These can range from news sites, and social media feeds, which are useful in grabbing your attention. Whether that’s Facebook or ESPN, the Freedom app will identify those sites as distracting and off-limits. Especially when you’re at the office (or need to focus), the app can come in handy to stay off these websites. No more mindlessly scrolling through Twitter or getting distracted by social media notifications.Freedom App Review- 3

Block Apps (Desktop & Mobile)

The Freedom app will also block apps on your desktop, and definitely mobile apps. If you use your smartphone regularly, mobile apps can be tempting with all the distractions that may come up. For example, email, games, and social media apps can be time wasters because they’re effective at keeping your attention longer. Many phone users spend so much time utilizing them to the point they could have been using their time spent wisely offline.

Freedom App Review

Schedule Time-Blocks & Advanced Scheduling

One of the main features of the Freedom app is scheduling sessions. In other words, you can schedule meetings for a half-hour, an hour, or a quick 20-minute focus period would work. When the sessions start, the app will block all distracting websites along with websites you selected beforehand. The time blocks are what define the purpose of the Freedom app. Again, that is to help users earn free time to do things that matter the most.

On the other hand, the Freedom app allows you to schedule sessions in advance. For instance, if you wanted to block out time several hours from now, you can do that ahead of time. Additionally, you can create recurring blocks to help make your focus sessions a daily habit. Doing something such as this practice daily can significantly enhance your productivity.

Pricing & Premium Member Perks

The Freedom app comes with a free trial option, which includes your first seven sessions free. After you complete your first seven sessions, you have options to go premium for access to unlimited sessions.

Pros & Cons

Similar to other productivity apps, the Freedom app has its strengths and flaws. Some of the pros and cons include:

Pros

  •  Simple and easy to block any website or app (desktop/mobile)
  •  Available on all devices (Google Play & IOS; apple/android/google products)
  •  Easy scheduling ahead of time (daily, weekly, monthly)
  •  Low cost (best value plan- forever subscription or one-time payment is $129)

Cons

  •  Time tracking report can be slow at times
  •   Unlike most time-tracking apps, there is no Pomodoro support. This technique is an effective time-   management strategy, and the app doesn’t have anything such as the Pomodoro technique.

Overall Review: Does the Freedom App Work?

Rating: 7.5/10

Overall, the Freedom app is one of the most well-known time management apps. The app has gained respect among people who work at large companies; for example, Google and Microsoft. Though it’s not entirely free, you can try it out for your first seven sessions. If you enjoy it and find that you’re managing your time better, it’s worth a premium membership to get the most benefits.

In my experience, I found the app to be handy tracking my time. During my first seven sessions, I got more work done some mornings than I usually would on a typical day. It took a while, but nice to have those pop-ups come up while I’m supposed to be focusing. Though the app is not my all-time favorite, I still like the ease and simplicity of setting up time blocks ahead of time. So it’s worth trying it out to see if it’s the right fit for your work style.

Are you willing to give the Freedom app a chance? If you love your first free seven sessions, sign up for a premium membership. Don’t forget about the perks that Freedom has to offer. Not to mention, the perks are fantastic and worth checking out.

Don’t miss out on some awesome deals!

  3. Hi Eric

The Freedom app sounds good, I am guessing the name as something to do with freeing up time. Anyway, the idea of the app is great especially in this day and age where social media is what it is.

I made it my new years resolution to stop using social media and while that may seem extreme it can really distract you from doing your work.

I think Freedom is perfect though as you can have a balance, you can get on with your work and relax later on.

If I ever get social media back I will consider using it for sure.

Thanks for sharing this great find.

  4. Many thanks to you for giving us such a beautiful article and we learned about the Freedom App through your article. I personally used this app and am still on my mobile. With this app we can block unnecessary websites and harmful websites or there are various hacking side that we can block. There are some phishing websites through which hackers hack our social media or our email address and we get into a lot of crap. I personally use these apps to protect against phishing websites. I think that after you read the address, many will know the good aspects of these apps and will use them

  5. Hello Eric. Some websites and social media as a whole could be something worth rating as negative because they can end up reducing our productivity and eat up our time. They’re simply time wasters when not properly utilised. So Freedom App looks really good in controlling these apps and website that seem to lower our productivity. Thanks for sharing this review based on your experience with the app.

It is not in my own best interest to be around there sniffing all soughts when k should be working. This is very suitable for us that work at home. I like it and should give it a try. I hope the privacy statement is adequate?

To be honest, getting a platform to be able to help schedule time and also helps to put things in order is a great one and thank you for sharing here. 9. I work from home and this definitely sounds like something I need. I spend way too much time watching random videos on YouTube when I’m supposed to be working. I could get so much more work done if I block out these things, but I lack the self discipline to do so. However I’m worried that after I block these things I’ll just end up going on my phone instead where I can also access YouTube. If I get the Freedom App on my PC will I be able to use it on my phone as well?

    • Thanks, Son. It’s good to know you’re interesting in trying out the Freedom app.I hear you about watching videos on YouTube (I was guilty of doing that in the past).

Regarding your question, the app is compatible with all devices and programs. It includes, laptops, tablets, and smartphones (Mac/PC; IOS/Android/Google Play). So you can install the app on your PC & phone to block out distractions. So I understand what you mean- it can be tempting to reach out your phone and do the same thing.

I hope that helps. Thank again for sharing your thoughts- much appreciated!

  11. So very glad I stumbled on your review! I must be honest, that I have never heard of the Freedom app before, but after reading your article, it sounds like this is most definitely something in need in my life. For I operate a blogging website, and am noticing that it sometimes takes me forever to write a blog post, because I am constantly getting distracted by text messages or social media notifications. In fact, I literally just got distracted with Facebook while writing this comment. Lol

I am curious though, what exactly do you mean that the “tracking report can be slow?”

    Reply
    • Thanks, Brandy! It’s nice to know that you enjoyed reading about the Freedom app.

It sounds like an app such as Freedom can help you move away from the distractions you run into. At least you’re not the only one- it happens to a lot of people when they’re browsing Facebook or other social sites.

Regarding your question, the tracking report can take up to a few hours updating your time. So it doesn’t always give an accurate time, when you’re focused through the app. That’s based on my experience when I tried it out for one day.

Thanks for asking that question, and for sharing your thoughts- much appreciated!

  12. Nice review, I think this is exactly what I need. Been trying to write a 500 words article for 3 hours straight…You have no idea how many times I got distracted doing other stuff.

I am definitely going to give this Freedom app a try, it’s only $2.42 a month for the yearly option. I guess I am going with that one.

Or do you suggest a different plan?

    Reply
    • Thanks, Isaac. Yeah I get what you mean about writing a post, including all of those distractions. It’s not easy, but if you use it wisely, you’d be surprised of how much you can get done.

It’s great you’re willing to try out the app. The yearly option is good. But if you’re still undecided, there are other options. You have the monthly option, and the forever option. With the forever option, it’s a one time payment that comes with all the features. Not only that, you can take advantage of the current discount they’re offering.

If you’re interested in the forever option, check out the plan and make sure to use code APR2020 for a steep discount. It’s a nice deal for sure!

Thank you for your question and your feedback! It’s much appreciated.
